It’s only right that we return to this. Raised By Eskimos. We love his music so much we want to pass on the secret. A while ago RBE made a bootleg of one of our summer anthems of last year and it was no doubt one of your sunshine smashers too. There is no catch to it. It’s just good music for free. What we do ask you to do is pass this remix on to everyone you know. It deserves to be out there. The world needs to know about Raised By Eskimos.

Hook up with RBE on Twitter, Facebook and SoundCloud!

Fresh from rocking Amsterdam’s RAI Arena in front of 25,000 people for Dirty Dutch Blackout in December and smashing BBC Radio 1′s Essential Mix live from Hull, label boss Chuckie continues his one man assault on EDM. Now back with a brand new club anthem, ‘Together’ the Dutchman delivers another huge statement of intent. ‘What Happens in Vegas’ and ‘Who Is Ready To Jump’ both soared into Beatport’s top ten last year as his unstoppable charge to the top continues to push forward, but the successes of last year look to be eclipsed once again with his latest standout cut.

‘Together’ is one for the biggest of big rooms. Built on a dirty, jump up bassline and pounding 4/4s, the track builds to fever pitch where classic piano chords and powerful vocals collide to create a moment of pure suspense. The drop explodes with all the power and energy of a sub-atomic, nuclear warhead, turning the dancefloor into unbridled frenzy.

Once again proving to be the master of the party atmosphere, Chuckie brings his typically crazy vibe to the track for all to see. A producer that is so on form that he’s started to melt the studio buttons, Chuckie will not stop until he’s got the whole world up on their feet and dancing Dirty Dutch style. ‘Lets Stick Together!’

“Great bassline and it has got me in the mood for some more house music ” – Gavin

“Cracking tune, proper filthy house. Exactly what you expect from Chuckie. Could just imagine bouncing away to this in a club. Wild!” – Owen

We got our hands on this mix from our good friend and talented DJ/Producer, Raised By Eskimos. We just have to pass it on to yourself.

Mike Skinner surely needs no introduction. In 2001, after slogging away as part of a three-piece for the best part of the ’90s, he released ‘Has It Come to This?’, a motion blurred combination of UK garage and stream-of-consciousness rapping that captured the UK at the turn of the decade like few other tracks did. UK garage had become the UK’s – and specifically London’s – pop music, with Kiss FM ruling the legal airwaves, but nothing before ‘Has It Come to This?’, the faded life story of a dark-eyed raver from Birmingham, had really sounded like it. The next year, he released his debut album, Original Pirate Material, and a star was born.

The years that followed were mixed; Skinner himself would probably admit that. His second album, A Grand Don’t Come for Free, was acclaimed by many as his best work yet, reaching number one in the UK album charts, but despite some glowing moments (‘Never Went to Church’, in particular), third album The Hardest Way to Make an Easy Living didn’t live up to the high standards set by the other two. Regardless, its these inconsistencies that make Skinner one of Britain’s most fascinating and relatable pop stars – that and the fact that he’s always repped for the underground, even at the height of his popularity drafting in radio-unfriendly MCs like D Double E, Kano and Bruza for remixes.

Skinner retired The Streets (on record, at least) with last year’s Computers & Blues, and of late has been working as half of The D.O.T., a new project with Rob Harvey.

Can’t beat a bit of old school garage!

They are Likely Lads, a four piece alternative rock band from York. They think they have something other bands haven’t [...]

They are Likely Lads, a four piece alternative rock band from York.
They think they have something other bands haven’t got, something bands used to have and want to bring back.
They believe in their songs, if they didn’t they wouldn’t be doing this.
They see a better life for themselves than working 9 to 5 in a dead end job.
They’ve lived real life experiences, this is what you will hear when you listen to Likely Lads.
They have a voice that needs to be heard.

Meet Likely Lads.

WHILE it was after seeing a reformed Libertines walk on stage to a rapturous reception at Leeds Festival last year that spurred Likely Lads into doing something about wanting to be on stage and form a new band, they actually take their name from a line which jumped out in another (albeit rather unlikely) TV series – Traffic Cops.

Lead guitarist Ash Harding explains, “There’s a line after a car chase where the narrator says ‘these Likely Lads got away’ and I immediately rang Ross and asked him what he thought.” Frontman/bassist Ross McLeod adds, “I immediately liked it. Not just because of the Libertines’ song but we then watched Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads, about two northern idiots, these sort of ‘northern Del Boys’, we realised the name had a charm to it,” Ash adds, “And these lads who were daft as a brush trying to come up with schemes and ways to better themselves. It reminded us of ourselves.”

Indeed, Likely Lads is all about wanting better. Having formed little more than a year ago in their hometown of York the four-piece alternative guitar band have been steadily causing a commotion on the local scene through a word of mouth buzz, building a fanbase that shares their ambition to see British bands returned to their former glory.

While Likely Lads’ influences will be obvious to many, their aim is to innovate and build upon ideas of those who have come before them. “If you look at bands like Stone Roses, Oasis, The Libertines, ultimately something always goes wrong, but they open the door for others to come along and be bigger and better, and right now nobody else is picking up that mantle, so we thought we’d have a go,” asserts Ross.

Along with rhythm guitarist Ben Porter and drummer Jordan Maher – while they all variously hold down dead-end jobs working in retail, house removals, whatever pays the bills, they have spent the last year honing their songwriting skills and actively building an online following. It began in their hometown and is rapidly spreading across the north. As Jordan puts it: “We totally believe in our songs and we aren’t afraid to put in as much work as necessary to get ourselves out there.”

It’s the basis on which the band are determined to break. “British bands keep trying to start a revolution and start again but they don’t have the songs,” says Ross, before Ben chips in, “Lots of bands perform well but it’s almost as if they lack the belief in their own music! We believe that our music is good enough to bring guitar music back to the charts. We have that spark that will get the ball rolling again. And that spark is our songs.” Ash adds, “We are about the music but you can buy into us as people – people see us as them!” while Ross again stresses, “The lyrics are all based on real life experiences, whereas with many other bands they are often vague about what they mean. Musically and lyrically our songs are no-nonsense, and straight in your face. But most importantly we actually live the life we sing about.”

An untitled four track EP of free demos circulated to fans both on CD and online in September, and this gave the boys vast attention further afield than their hometown. Others will be able to make their own judgement whether Likely Lads have the walk as well as the talk when they hear their first proper release, the Observations EP, in early 2012.

Sub Focus has released the first track from his new album as a free download. Although we’re not the quickest to bring it to you, having had it blaring in our ears for ages, it’s still too good to let it pass by.

Having spent the best part of 2011 smashing huge arenas and festivals alike with his incredible live show, Nick Douwma aka Sub Focus is now back in the studio working on the highly anticipated follow up to his self titled 2009 debut.

Taking the diversity he offered on his self-titled debut album, ‘Falling Down’ is a brilliantly-pieced tapestry of glacial melodies, bowel turning low-end combinations and vocals that will stick in your head until long after the last tune of the night has gone.

The artist’s rise through the ranks of underground drum & bass to become a major player in electronic music has been nothing short of spectacular. Initially known for air-punching, dancefloor dismantling drum & bass, Sub Focus has now become synonymous with music that draws from all corners of the electronic landscape, and has come to epitomise the ‘anything goes’ mantra of today’s flourishing electronic music scene.

Download: Sub Focus – Falling Down

“This is the kinda’ music that’ll make me put my hands up in the air at any festival, a lovely trance sound to it until the Dubstep kicks in. Fair enough it’s not your filthy dubstep which everyone seems to be enjoying right now but this is definately the kind I prefer. Huge tune and can’t wait for the album.” - Owen

“Great build up and lyrics. Could do with being a bit more bass heavy though.” - Gavin

“TUNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!” – Scott

First of all, welcome to 2012. Happy New Year to yourself, your families and friends from all of us at ZeroSeven.

We’ve had some massive Mixsets from some very talented and high profile DJ’s. It would be unfair for us to select one that has blown us away. They all have. Every mix we’ve recieved has been outstanding. But… being the cunts that we are… we want to be unfair. We’ve gone and selected our Mixset of the Year for last year and what a mix is it. You’re going to have to give it a listen and fingers crossed we can get another mix from them soon.

ROMAIN G

We won’t lie. We’ve never heard of Chant of Victory before. But when this mix appeared in our SoundCloud we though it was well worth posting up here. Full of 90′s classics. Just what we like.

Chant of Victory is a french/belgian duo composed of Simon Dusausoy and Thomas de lamarzelle . Bound by a strong desire to make the crowd go wild they released their first EP “F16” on HornyBassRecords and it will be followed up by releases on Bag records starting February 2012 with the “Kinky Lady” EP. Their “F16 EP” charted in the Chuckie’s playlist of November 2011. Chant of Victory also gained a fair amount of popularity doing remixes of Flo rida, Busta Rhymes, Beyoncé and more big names . Currently they are finalizing a panel of differents EP’s for Bag records.

We have a pretty tasty remix for you today.

Back as far as its turn-of-the-millennium origins, Markus’ alter ego was always conceived as a channel through which he could explore the darker and more devoutly club side of his mind.

“To me the audio that Dakota presents and the music which I put out under my own name stand totally apart. It’s an entirely separate set of tempos, sound-ranges and FX rules. To have this studio ‘other self’ with which to produce this type of music is more important to me than ever”, he says.

Founded in the year 2000 by Torsten Fassbender, Wellenrausch produces and remixes for artists such as Blank&Jones, Luna Park and PPK constantly hit the international Trance charts, are present on a number of compilations and can be found on the playlists from almost every top DJ in the world.

“Right… I love a bit of Markus and this track is right up my street. I love the low sub-bass through the track. It’s definately a track that needs played very loud. Can just imagine being stick in some dingy club with my hands in the air, the way clubbing should be be.

The key changing in the video is annoying though! Gies the original!” - Owen

“Love this tune at the moment. Markus is a fantastic dj and this tune is no less fantastic than him. Buzzing to get this on in the car.
I do however agree with Owen, the pitch changing is pretty unnecessary” - Gavin

Louis is an 19 year old up and coming DJ who started DJing in Febuary 2011. After studying a course with DJ Academy UK, Louis started running his own club night called Hybrid with DJ partner Euan Gemmell at the Lane nightclub in Edinburgh. Louis has a very unique style and usually plays the best in progressive house but can also spin electro, tech house and even sometimes the odd trance track.

Right now the future is looking bright as Hybrid have joined forces with already popular club night Sample to give birth to Sample vs Hybrid. Hybrid have also announced their new resident DJ – Stewie Anderson who has a great style of mixing! Louis has played at many gigs in his 6 month DJ career including Club together, Lourenzos, Sample, Ryan’s Bar, “I’m not at T in the Park party” and has even played on an island rave, not to mention his new night starting in Newcastle on the 24Th of February. Louis has also been asked to play at Beach Break next year, a huge festival down in wales with 30.000 students.

Being huge supporters of his work, we caught up with Louis to give you a little bit more…

Interview

First of all, Before we kick off what drink are you having?

PINNNTT

Define your style and tell us a bit about yourself.

My music style varies, one minute I am a trance addict, then the next im back on to house. I would say that i have a varied range of music but most of it is kept tech/progressive house with a very sexy kind of vibe (vocal house). I started DJing back in february and studied a course with the DJ academy UK, after that i set up Hybrid and since then everything has just went from strength to strength.

How did you get into Music? Take us right back to the young days of Louis.

I was never a music man believe it or not. When I was younger I was a heavy rock fan but I had a lot of influence from my mum- she was right into all of the 90′s tunes like The Prodigy and Robin S (that kind of stuff) – i remember hearing ATB- 9pm when I was about 13 and ever since then I had the bug for electronic music.

How do you like to prepare for a big night?

I always get really nervous on the night regardless of where I am playing, I usually have a couple of beers and that makes me a bit more confident. I figured that everyone makes mistakes, even superstars and you just make every gig you do the best for both yourself and your crowd.

Have you thought about producing your own music?

Producing music will hopefully happen sometime in the near future for me, just now I am more focused on just perfecting my sound and promoting my name and Hybrid.

What’s your ultimate direction? Are you seeking fame and fortune?

My ultimate ambition has always been becoming a superstar DJ, however, thinking about it, if I could just keep doing what i am doing just now then i would be happy too! I don’t need to make a fortune as long as i can keep doing the thing I love most to good and energetic crowds then I am a happy bunny. (I haven’t come across a better feeling yet.)

Do you like to work alone or with other people?

I think that I like a bit of both… I love working with everyone in the music scene to promote and run nights but when it comes to playing sets, I like to have the decks to myself – in a non dickish way – haha!

Who would be your dream artist to work with?

I have many many many artists I would love to work with or support. I think tiesto is the almighty and that goes without saying in my books; but someone like Roger Sanchez or Erick Morillo would be a dream come true for me.

What do you like the most about people hearing the music?

Well the thing I love about hearing music is that it can have so many effects on you, whenI hear a tuneI love I get those shivers down my back and want to go mental. I guess what I am trying to say is the energy that music has is mind blowing – I try and incorporate that into every set I play. People hearing my music also means I can share my love for music with them.

What has been your biggest challenge so far?

MONEY! being a student I never have enough, apart from that promotion – its so difficult to promote your own night, there’s always something stopping you, its so hard to get anything out of some nights when you put nothing but blood, sweat and tears into it!

What’s your Best/Worst gig?

I think that every gig I get offered is a blessing in itself – I always feel honored when people ask to play at their nights. If I had to pick one? It would have been our Hybrid night in July- it wasn’t packed but everyone inside was well up for it! I have not really had any bad gigs personally. But we had a night in august which we thought was going to be amazing but it was nothing like we thought it would be.

What’s your dream gig?

I have no idea, I seen something at Rockness last year called the Arcadia Afterburner which is a huge structure with a full light and laser show with towering smoke machines and flame throwers . Its all made from old war vehicles, the DJ booth is like 5 meters of the ground- that would be pretty cool to play in that contraption. Other than that, DJ’ing abroad would also be a great privilege for me!

What’s your all-time favourite track?

Now that’s a very difficult question! There’s so many good tunes out there. I guess one of my favourites would be an oldie such as Delirium or South-Side Spinners – right now I’m loving Flirt by John Dahlback!

And what is your guilty pleasure track, everyone loves a bit of cheese?

I’m not proud of this but it would have to be Nakatomi- Children of the Night!…..its sounds like a 150bpm pop song

Last one. Do you have any tips for other young DJ/Producers who want to succeed?

I am still only a rookie myself but my best bit of advice would be never let anything get in the ways of your dreams, if you want to do something that bad then you will eventually get there, stick at it and your hard work will be worth it one day. Remember its not a matter of “if” its a matter of “when”.
