We got our hands on this mix from our good friend and talented DJ/Producer, Raised By Eskimos. We just have to pass it on to yourself.

Mike Skinner surely needs no introduction. In 2001, after slogging away as part of a three-piece for the best part of the ’90s, he released ‘Has It Come to This?’, a motion blurred combination of UK garage and stream-of-consciousness rapping that captured the UK at the turn of the decade like few other tracks did. UK garage had become the UK’s – and specifically London’s – pop music, with Kiss FM ruling the legal airwaves, but nothing before ‘Has It Come to This?’, the faded life story of a dark-eyed raver from Birmingham, had really sounded like it. The next year, he released his debut album, Original Pirate Material, and a star was born.

The years that followed were mixed; Skinner himself would probably admit that. His second album, A Grand Don’t Come for Free, was acclaimed by many as his best work yet, reaching number one in the UK album charts, but despite some glowing moments (‘Never Went to Church’, in particular), third album The Hardest Way to Make an Easy Living didn’t live up to the high standards set by the other two. Regardless, its these inconsistencies that make Skinner one of Britain’s most fascinating and relatable pop stars – that and the fact that he’s always repped for the underground, even at the height of his popularity drafting in radio-unfriendly MCs like D Double E, Kano and Bruza for remixes.

Skinner retired The Streets (on record, at least) with last year’s Computers & Blues, and of late has been working as half of The D.O.T., a new project with Rob Harvey.

Can’t beat a bit of old school garage!

We won’t lie. We’ve never heard of Chant of Victory before. But when this mix appeared in our SoundCloud we though it was well worth posting up here. Full of 90′s classics. Just what we like.

Chant of Victory is a french/belgian duo composed of Simon Dusausoy and Thomas de lamarzelle . Bound by a strong desire to make the crowd go wild they released their first EP “F16” on HornyBassRecords and it will be followed up by releases on Bag records starting February 2012 with the “Kinky Lady” EP. Their “F16 EP” charted in the Chuckie’s playlist of November 2011. Chant of Victory also gained a fair amount of popularity doing remixes of Flo rida, Busta Rhymes, Beyoncé and more big names . Currently they are finalizing a panel of differents EP’s for Bag records.

Louis is an 19 year old up and coming DJ who started DJing in Febuary 2011. After studying a course with DJ Academy UK, Louis started running his own club night called Hybrid with DJ partner Euan Gemmell at the Lane nightclub in Edinburgh. Louis has a very unique style and usually plays the best in progressive house but can also spin electro, tech house and even sometimes the odd trance track.

Right now the future is looking bright as Hybrid have joined forces with already popular club night Sample to give birth to Sample vs Hybrid. Hybrid have also announced their new resident DJ – Stewie Anderson who has a great style of mixing! Louis has played at many gigs in his 6 month DJ career including Club together, Lourenzos, Sample, Ryan’s Bar, “I’m not at T in the Park party” and has even played on an island rave, not to mention his new night starting in Newcastle on the 24Th of February. Louis has also been asked to play at Beach Break next year, a huge festival down in wales with 30.000 students.

Being huge supporters of his work, we caught up with Louis to give you a little bit more…

Interview

First of all, Before we kick off what drink are you having?

PINNNTT

Define your style and tell us a bit about yourself.

My music style varies, one minute I am a trance addict, then the next im back on to house. I would say that i have a varied range of music but most of it is kept tech/progressive house with a very sexy kind of vibe (vocal house). I started DJing back in february and studied a course with the DJ academy UK, after that i set up Hybrid and since then everything has just went from strength to strength.

How did you get into Music? Take us right back to the young days of Louis.

I was never a music man believe it or not. When I was younger I was a heavy rock fan but I had a lot of influence from my mum- she was right into all of the 90′s tunes like The Prodigy and Robin S (that kind of stuff) – i remember hearing ATB- 9pm when I was about 13 and ever since then I had the bug for electronic music.

How do you like to prepare for a big night?

I always get really nervous on the night regardless of where I am playing, I usually have a couple of beers and that makes me a bit more confident. I figured that everyone makes mistakes, even superstars and you just make every gig you do the best for both yourself and your crowd.

Have you thought about producing your own music?

Producing music will hopefully happen sometime in the near future for me, just now I am more focused on just perfecting my sound and promoting my name and Hybrid.

What’s your ultimate direction? Are you seeking fame and fortune?

My ultimate ambition has always been becoming a superstar DJ, however, thinking about it, if I could just keep doing what i am doing just now then i would be happy too! I don’t need to make a fortune as long as i can keep doing the thing I love most to good and energetic crowds then I am a happy bunny. (I haven’t come across a better feeling yet.)

Do you like to work alone or with other people?

I think that I like a bit of both… I love working with everyone in the music scene to promote and run nights but when it comes to playing sets, I like to have the decks to myself – in a non dickish way – haha!

Who would be your dream artist to work with?

I have many many many artists I would love to work with or support. I think tiesto is the almighty and that goes without saying in my books; but someone like Roger Sanchez or Erick Morillo would be a dream come true for me.

What do you like the most about people hearing the music?

Well the thing I love about hearing music is that it can have so many effects on you, whenI hear a tuneI love I get those shivers down my back and want to go mental. I guess what I am trying to say is the energy that music has is mind blowing – I try and incorporate that into every set I play. People hearing my music also means I can share my love for music with them.

What has been your biggest challenge so far?

MONEY! being a student I never have enough, apart from that promotion – its so difficult to promote your own night, there’s always something stopping you, its so hard to get anything out of some nights when you put nothing but blood, sweat and tears into it!

What’s your Best/Worst gig?

I think that every gig I get offered is a blessing in itself – I always feel honored when people ask to play at their nights. If I had to pick one? It would have been our Hybrid night in July- it wasn’t packed but everyone inside was well up for it! I have not really had any bad gigs personally. But we had a night in august which we thought was going to be amazing but it was nothing like we thought it would be.

What’s your dream gig?

I have no idea, I seen something at Rockness last year called the Arcadia Afterburner which is a huge structure with a full light and laser show with towering smoke machines and flame throwers . Its all made from old war vehicles, the DJ booth is like 5 meters of the ground- that would be pretty cool to play in that contraption. Other than that, DJ’ing abroad would also be a great privilege for me!

What’s your all-time favourite track?

Now that’s a very difficult question! There’s so many good tunes out there. I guess one of my favourites would be an oldie such as Delirium or South-Side Spinners – right now I’m loving Flirt by John Dahlback!

And what is your guilty pleasure track, everyone loves a bit of cheese?

I’m not proud of this but it would have to be Nakatomi- Children of the Night!…..its sounds like a 150bpm pop song

Last one. Do you have any tips for other young DJ/Producers who want to succeed?

I am still only a rookie myself but my best bit of advice would be never let anything get in the ways of your dreams, if you want to do something that bad then you will eventually get there, stick at it and your hard work will be worth it one day. Remember its not a matter of “if” its a matter of “when”.

They say that fortune favours the brave. For Eric Prydz, a bold musical agenda and an unrivalled ability to combine [...]

They say that fortune favours the brave. For Eric Prydz, a bold musical agenda and an unrivalled ability to combine commercial success (3 x Top 2 UK hit singles) with underground notoriety (fastest selling release ever on cult download store Beatport), has allowed him to achieve worldwide recognition with his integrity intact.

The softly spoken Swede hasn’t given an interview in 6 years, he never appears in his music videos, and avoids ‘artist tweets his breakfast’ self-promotion. His refusal to play the media circus stems from the fallout ignited by ‘that’ video. His first No.1, ‘Call On Me’, was accompanied by a music promo that he didn’t clear, much less approve of. He shied away from the publicity and ensuing success (the Steve Winwood-sampling track he’d made “just for his friends” clocked up over 4 million sales), and retreated into his studio to continue making the dark, brooding electronica he was becoming known for.

But, every so often, and always at the time of his choosing, he’s emerged with a hit record – 3 of them and counting. Following his debut for Ministry Of Sound’s label, Data, he was the only artist ever to be given the go ahead to sample Pink Floyd, Prydz released the Grammy nominated ‘Proper Education’, the reworking of Floyd’s ‘Another Brick In The Wall’ that reached No.2 in the UK charts. This time Eric took charge of the music video; the resulting promo and its accompanying environmental theme was hailed by Greenpeace, used as part of the NGO’s own marketing campaign, and is still requested by schools across the world.

He followed this in 2008 with ‘Pjanoo’. After becoming Beatport’s fastest selling release, the instrumental track was championed by Zane Lowe and Pete Tong, given 4 separate Radio 1 ‘Record of the Week’ accolades and was playlisted by the station seven weeks upfront of its release; it hit No.2 that summer.

His next move was typical of his personality. While most artists would have been frogmarched into producing an album and encouraged to run the promotional gauntlet, Eric simply played a handful of gigs, and then went back to his studio in London to tend to his two record labels, Pryda and Mouseville.

It’s Pryda and Mouseville that have allowed Prydz to remain something of an enigma while being a household name. Both labels are held in the highest regard by an adoring underground scene, though their releases are made available with scarcely any promotion. Musically, they’ve become genre-defining stables in their own right, and are two of the most successful and influential dance labels in the world (acknowledged by Beatport as being among their biggest grossing imprints).

On Pryda, and under the same alias, Prydz explores his house influences with a plethora of tracks that have become huge club tunes around the globe. Songs like “Aftermath”, “Armed”, “Muranyi” and “Melo”, layer harmonies, melodies and hooks over his unmistakable basslines.

His Mouseville imprint has seen Prydz produce under the alias Cirez D, releasing harder and more upfront techno tracks to great acclaim. “On Off”, the biggest selling EP from the label epitomises the Mouseville ethos with its succinct nod to the Swedish underground. Eric also created Pryda Friends as an outlet for tracks created by his friends. This has created a number of collaborations, including the inimitable “1983” with Paulo Mojo and “123” with fellow Swedish producer, Axwell.

Since his arrival, Eric has inadvertently broken into uncharted territory for dance music. The man with an infamous fear of flying but a worldwide demand for his DJ sets is often faced with an uncomfortable choice before touring. That said; festivals, events, and venues across the planet have rocked to his performances, safe in the knowledge that they’re witnessing something special.

With his first artist album ready to drop very soon, Prydz is set to make another return to the mainstream, but as any underground electronic music fan worth their salt knows, he’s never far from proceedings, you just need to know where to find him.

Ralph Kyau and Steven Moebius Albert are known to the EDM world as Kyau & Albert.

The two Germans have produced such massive club hits like “Made Of Sun”, “Velvet Morning”, “Walk Down”, “Kiksu”, “Megashira”, “Are You Fine?”, “Hide&Seek” and so much more. One little known K&A fact: all male vocals come from Steven Moebius Albert himself!

In 1997 Kyau & Albert founded their record label Euphonic, which is one of the top brands today.

Their successful debut artist album “Here We Are Now” was released on 3 continents. They remixed some of the biggest names in club land like Armin van Buuren, Kosheen, Gabriel & Dresden and so much more.

Check out the second album “Worldvibe” – CD released in these territories: Germany/Austria/Switzerland, UK/Eire, USA/Canada, Russia, South Asia + Mexico/Central America

In 2009 they released the CD “Best Of 2002-2009″ incl all their biggest tunes.

Marking the 400th episode of Above & Beyond’s Trance Around The World show, TATW400 featured a marathon live broadcast on 237 FM radio frequencies across 35 countries, as well as online. With a weekly listenership of 30m, TATWranks among the world’s most popular radio shows.

Above and Beyond descended in Beirut, Lebanon to take over the world with their world famous TATW. Featuring some massive names

Jaytech

Being the lovable fuckers that we are, we’re trying our best to bring you every set from this mammoth show! This time we’re bringing you the fantastic Jaytech.

In a world awash with carbon copy producers, 25-year-old James Cayzer aka Jaytech is a bright exception. Classically trained as a pianist and a perfectionist when it comes to programming, his unique blends of deep melodies and sunny electronic grooves are equally at home in the DJ sets of Sasha or Desyn Masiello as they are in the stadium headlining appearances of Above & Beyond.

Despite his relative youth, Jaytech’s prodigious creativity and prolific work rate (he started producing at just 14 and released his first track at 16) have seen him rise up as the most consistent artist on the popular Anjunadeep imprint — even releasing the label’s first full artist album through 2008’s ‘Everything Is Ok’ (“Lush, melodic and soaked in electronic groove – a crossover gem” **** -DJ Magazine), and hitting number one in the iTunes dance chart with his Anjunadeep 02 mix compilation in 2010. (“Compilation of the month **** -Mixmag.)

Cementing his position as one of the leading lights within deep, uplifting electronic music, Jaytech’s monthly mix show ‘Jaytech Music’ now airs on radio stations across the globe and is downloaded by thousands as a monthly podcast. A window into his sound, it’s also the best place to hear Jaytech’s upcoming personal productions before anyone else.

Long chosen as the warm-up DJ of choice for Above & Beyond, Jaytech is now taking off as a headline DJ in his own right. Chosen to headline the Anjunadeep room for the label’s flagship party at the Miami WMC, he remains the number one headline DJ within the core Anjunadeep family.

February 2011 sees the release of Jaytech’s most promising mix work to date. Anjunadeep 03 is the latest annual label collection and features 29 largely unreleased tracks that range from deep, dark and hypnotic techno sounds to upbeat, uplifting electronic house grooves.

Proof of his rising stock behind the turntables, a packed DJ diary has recently taken in dates at Ibiza’s Amnesia, London’s Brixton Academy and Japan’s world-famous Womb. In the past year he has also traveled the vast corners of his Australian homeland with the Future Music Festival and taken his uplifting and perfectly paced sound on tour in America — more recently with Above & Beyond for their TATW350 event in Los Angeles, where his set was broadcast live across the globe to a listen-in audience of 30 million.

Often uplifting but never obvious, Jaytech is a force on an unstoppable rise right now. And his journey is only just beginning.
