Interview: Tisoki

 INTERVIEW

Meet Bradley. Also known as Tisoki. A producer based right here in Edinburgh and has played alongside acts such as Flux Pavilion, Roksonix, Brown & Gammon, Feint, Stan SB, Boy Kid Cloud, Dimension and Memro in the UK and not too long ago, has taken his live show to Belgium. The boy’s even got support from BBC Radio 1 and knocked up a number one on Dubstep.net!

Tisoki – Sky Child

Let’s kick off with a drink. It’s our round. What you having?

Jack Daniels and Coke pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee

So tell us, Where did the name Tisoki come from? No doubt you’ve been asked this before!

It’s an anagram of “It Is Ok”, there’s another meaning behind it but it’s too disgusting for an interview.

Tell us a bit about yourself. How did you find yourself producing and creating the massive electronic sounds that your renowned for?

I spend a lot of time on my own, as a teenager I tried to be the center of attention at school and thought being big headed was cool when it really wasn’t so I guess these days I just lock myself in my studio away from everything and just stick my mind straight to music.

What tracks are you listening to just now?

Miguel – Do You… (Cashmere Cat Remix)

Millions Like Us – Behind You

Archie Cane – The Link

Tisoki

Let’s talk about Edinburgh’s scene, it been under a lot of scrutiny recently. How do you see the scene here and if you could do anything to improve it what would you do?

Oh deary me, I don’t even think I have a foot to stand on regarding this topic, the number of internet wars and facebook arguments I’ve thrown myself into is ridiculous and I really have to stop it, basically like I said in another interview, there’s two major sides from my point of view, Electrikal and XY, I think both are doing amazing jobs with sold out gigs basically every time around, Electrikal is more suited to the underground kinda crew and XY is more student, housey stuff but both are great, I guess if I could do anything to improve the scene I’d fuck off and move somewhere else, I have the biggest mouth ever and if someone fucks my friends over I regrettably make an online rant about it, fuck my life.

Club Nights. What’s been your best so far?

I haven’t really done many club nights. I loved Antwerp in Belgium and Sneaky Pete’s in Edinburgh, both amazing vibes and lovely people.

And if you could play anywhere in the world, where would you choose?

America, LA or some huge festival, it’s always been my dream, hopefully one day. *sobs into arms*

What’s next for Tisoki?

A lot more releases, my song Twerk should be out soon enough but recently I’ve been lacking as I couldn’t find a label but now it’s all set and go with my dudes, more shows for sure, possibly in other parts of the world, that’s all I can really say at the moment, oh and a lot more annoying vine posts of me on public transport!

ONE MORE TUNE! What’s your final tune and why?

It’s gotta be this monster by my bro Fonik, we’ve possibly got something in the works soon… ;)

SubFocus

Sub Focus – Endorphins

Out SoonSub Focus, aka Nick Douwma, returns to the forefront of the UK electronic music scene with a brand new single Endorphins featuring Alex Clare on the 19th May 2013. The track premiered on Annie Mac’s Radio 1 show last week.

Sub Focus has long been one of electronic music’s most talked about names and last year, he released his most successful single to date Tidal Wave which charted at #12 and has since sold over 150,000 copies. Tidal Wave saw him pair up with UK rock duo Alpines and his new single sees him collaborate with BRIT Award’s nominee Alex Clare.

Sub FocusHaving spent 2011 and 2012 smashing huge arenas and festivals alike with his live show, supporting Pendulum live on tour as well as completing his own headline live tour, Sub Focus shows no sign of slowing down. In 2013, Sub Focus has already been confirmed for an array of festivals including headline slots at Glastonbury, Isle of Wight, Reading and Leeds and more to be announced soon.

Already a fan of breaking through boundaries and exploring new technology in his music, 2012 saw Nick throw out the rule book when he completely reinvented his live production to include ground breaking circular LED technology. Grum

#TOTW: Grum – Everytime

GrumPageFANTASTIC NEWS!!!!!!!! GRUM IS BACK! Now given his previous statement on FB. “‘Everytime’ will be released in March/April 2013. Album will shortly follow.” We really don’t have long to wait until new album “Human Touch”. “Everytime” got played out during Annie Mac’s show on Radio One Friday night, having only been given a preview I cant wait to hear the full thing. This is a new direction for Grum and I wasn’t fully expecting it to be so ermmmmmmm housey! Many fans I can only presume may be left dissapointed with that fact that Grum’s signature sound isn’t here. The game has changed, it sounds different. It’s not the same as before.

Now with that being said I think that this is tremendous! It’s big, it’s synthy, it’s dark and it’s fucking new!! I can only begin to imagine the presence this would have in a club. Which I can only presume is exactly what Grum is aiming for here. Big house with intelligence. Respect for any artist established with such an 80′s retro sound to burst out with a 90′s-esque album teaser. Evidence Grum has developed and grown as an artist since his first album and isn’t afraid to mix it up to take his name to a whole new level. Pushing into unchartered waters,  keeping it risky and most of all fresh! I think it’s important for artists to develop and now is the perfect time for Grum to tap into something new and express himself. Now as it’s just a preview we won’t dissect the clap sound or ponder where that lead line is going towards the end, we’ll just leave you to it!

Safe to say the Soundcloud comments are of mixed opinion. But what do you think!!?

As an Easter bonus GRUM threw us a new remix also, again 90′s-esque sounding this time with full blown piano house summer vibes! It is officially now summer right?

HAPPY EASTER EDMBROS! ;)

Daft Punk – Random Access Memories

ProfileDaft Punk have announced their fourth album, Random Access Memories. The long-awaited LP, the French duo’s first with Columbia Records, is due on 20 May in the UK.

Following months of hints and teases, Daft Punk are finally showing their hand for the follow-up to 2005′s Human After All. Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter launched a website this weekend, unveiling the record’s title and release date, as well as confirming the album cover art. This double-helmetted graphic is an image the French duo first shared in January, when they announced their deal with Columbia.

On Saturday night, Daft Punk repeated a trick they first played on 2 March, releasing 15 seconds of new music through a television commercial. Clearly the DJs are fans of sketch comedy: once again, the ad was shown during an episode of Saturday Night Live. The new clip seems to be taken from the same song, but boasts some of Daft Punk’s distinctive vocoder. Loose and funky, it evokes Discovery’s cyber-disco much more than Human After All’s robo-rock.

One of the track’s guitarists is Chic’s Nile Rodgers, who recorded with the band last year. “When you listen to the clip that dropped on Saturday Night Live, it pretty much shows you the great collaboration,” he recently told Rolling Stone. “It’s clear as a bell … The collaboration felt so unbelievably natural that it made me realise I need to be in the studio with people.” Random Access Memories may also reportedly include contributions by Chilly Gonzales, Panda Bear and Muppets songwriter Paul Williams.

Daft Punk’s last album was a relative disappointment. Unlike 1997′s Homework or 2001′s Discovery, Human After All didn’t produce a single top 10 hit; it’s never even been certified gold. But over the last eight years, Daft Punk have seen an explosion in popularity – they’re probably the biggest dance act in the world. More important than their soundtrack for Tron: Legacy or getting sampled by Kanye West is the reputation of the duo’s live shows. Even years before the ‘EDM’ boom, fans were raving about Daft Punk’s neon raves.

Random Access Memories is available to pre-order now from Amazon.

Keep following ZeroSeven for the latest updates on the eagerly awaited album!

Sky Ferreira – Everything Is Embarrassing (Krystal Klear Remix)

New Music

This isn’t new. Nope. It’s good though, and worthy of another listen, again and again. Chilled vibes and all that.

So, there’s been more than a few remixes of Sky Ferriera’s beautiful 2012 single “Everything Is Embarrassing”- notably, both Twin Shadow and Unknown Mortal Orchestra have stepped up to bat in offering their own take on the darkly luminiscent tune. Now, there’s another remix courtesy of Manchester’s Krystal Klear, and it just might be the best remix yet, as KK opens the song up and turns it into a big, airy house jam.

Dukez

Dukez Up! – The Interview

Dukez

Introducing Dukez Up! Edinburgh’s new DJ/Producer duo consisting of the talented Danny Ewing and Mike Fletcher. The two lads have been hard at work producing some new tracks but have found some time to speak to us here at ZeroSeven. GET THE DRINKS IN!

As standard here, we don’t do an interview without a drink. What you having?

- Danny: “I’ll go with a Corona. Boring I know, but trust me its for the best!”

- Mike: “Jack & Coke as always surrr!”

Tell us about Dukez Up!

-M: “Dukez Up! really came about when myself & Danny got together to promote a clubnight. We started playing back 2 back sets and soon after we decided to become a duo under one name so the Dukez were born!  At the end of October last year we released our first installment of our ‘Son of a Glitch’ mixtape series expressing our versatile taste in music.”

-D: “We want to keep clear of the more mainstream side, however that doesn’t mean we can’t still have a bit of fun. We can still blast out a remix of ‘Chain Hang Low’ or ‘Rhythm of the Night’ haha.”

Where did the name come from? What’s the inspirations behind it?

-M: “The name was Danny’s idea. He had seen some guy with a ‘DUKES UP’ tattoo and thought it was pretty cool!”

-D: “It was just one of those things. We had been trying to come up with a name for a while, without any luck, and then it just clicked as soon as I saw this guys tat.”

The upcoming new track ‘Pvper’, tell us about it…

-M: “The new track is our first track together. It’s a big bass banger with little hints of Trap music here and there. We’re also really buzzed it’s gonna be released on CRLV’s upcoming LP!!”

-D: “Yeh it goes hard! We are so happy with all the support the track has generated so far. Pretty cool!!”

Club nights. You’ve smashed a few now. What’s been your best and why?

-D: “Big up to Ralph at Nu-Fire, he gave us our first shot. First gig together, the club is rammed and bouncing away… What more could you want!!”

-M: “Nu-Fire @ Sneaky Pete’s. This is where we had our first show back in December, the atmosphere inside Sneaky’s is unlike anywhere else. Just a few weeks ago we returned to Nu-Fire to go head to head with The Mighty Cream, that was really fun too.”

Tell us about the other nights…

-D: “Supporting Mia Dora at the Annexe has been a highlight for me so far. The crew at Tick Tick Boom were all pretty cool! Defo a night we want to return to!”

-M: “We’ve played for a few other nights including Sub Zero and Tick Tick Boom. Sub Zero we’ve played 2 headline slots for and I love the crowd there, always a packed dance floor when we play.”

What’s your favourite place to play?

-M: Sneaky Pete’s. The atmosphere is unreal and you meet some of the coolest people in town.

-D: I concur… Fucking epic joint. Would literally do anything to play there… ANYTHING!

A question which brings up alot of discussion! What do you think of Edinburgh’s ‘scene’ just now and how would you improve it?

-D: “Hmm, it’s tricky, XY are killing it just now with the likes of Jack Beats and Nadastrom headlining. As for the overall Scene in Edinburgh, mainstream wise, it’s got a lot of work to do to even compete with the likes of Glasgow and London. Even as an outsider Aberdeen looks like its trying new things. Edinburgh just needs to catch up!”

-M: “Edinburgh has really lost it’s scene for underground music the past two or three years with club heavyweights like ‘Fuse’ and ‘Axis’ no longer running. There are still club nights running the underground scene but not many clubs are open to having this type of music played anymore where as a few years ago they would be happy to try it as there was healthy competition.”

Current tune your hammering?

-M: GTA’s ‘Booty Bounce’ and their remix of Congorock & Sean Paul’s ‘Bless Di Nation’

-D: Congorock – Babylon (Cesqeaux Trap Remix), Mackai – Mutant and Butch Clancy – The Turn Up.

Inspiration for Dukez Up? Who inspired both of you to get into music?

-M: “Kissy Sell Out inspired me to become a DJ. The energy and efforts he puts in to his sets is off the chain. Such a talented guy aswell! It was probably when I seen him live @ Berlin (Now known as Castle Clvb) that I thought, “this is what I wanna do with my life”.”

-D: “Personally I’ve been into so much different music since I was young. Hip hop, Indie, House… So inspiration comes from NWA to Bloc Party. But just now I’m influenced by the likes of Clockwork (RL Grime), Diplo and A-Trak. Pretty much businessmen along with being fucking genius producers. I see them touring all over the world, producing banging shit and running labels and I’m like, yes. That please!”

What’s next for Dukez Up?

-M: “We’ve currently taken a break from gigging to work on our debut EP. We’re also working on a couple remix projects and have a few collaborations in the pipeline!”

-D: “Yeh it’s exciting times for us! So much going on, but we both have a drive to do as much as possible, which makes us a great team! Just watch out. We’re coming for you…”

Let’s finish the interview with another big track? What are you finishing on?

-M: “Mackai & Max Baer ‘Got Swag’!”

-D: “Come on bro you gotta ask??? Get Ya PVPER..”

#TOTW: Gigamesh – Enjoy

TOTW

And so it came to be that the disco heavens opened and the disco God said unto Epoch: ‘Get a Beatport account man, it’s really about time. Plus that new Gigamesh single is a Beatport exclusive!’

Gigamesh has been ticking my ‘searing disco heat’ box for a couple of years now and his ‘All My Life’ EP on Kitsune Maison was one of my favourites of 2012. Since hearing the ‘Enjoy’ preview, I’ve pretty much spent all day, every day crawling around on my kitchen floor cursing the disco God himself for it not being out yet. Well thankfully it’s out and it’d have been my track of last week had I not fist pumped myself into a coma.

As you’d expect, it’s a grooving, arse shaking piece of heavily melodic nu-disco. Catchy vocal hook, fattest clap sound ever and a bassline that made me cry sex tears. Braw stuff from Gigamesh, continuing to solidify himself as a nu-disco hero at a time where a lot of the old guard nu-disco heroes are turning to more… Modern pursuits.

Hawd oan though, there’s more. A wee pop quiz. Ready?

Q) Which two words, can be added to the end of anything in existence to produce a better end result? Free cake? Nut. Extra cake? Nut. Cake cake? Nut.

A) Oliver. Remix.

Yes, there’s an Oliver remix and yes it’s absolutely banging.

I would quite happily play both of these end to end, on repeat, all night long. Take me readers, take me under the disco ball.
