Louis is an 19 year old up and coming DJ who started DJing in Febuary 2011. After studying a course with DJ Academy UK, Louis started running his own club night called Hybrid with DJ partner Euan Gemmell at the Lane nightclub in Edinburgh. Louis has a very unique style and usually plays the best in progressive house but can also spin electro, tech house and even sometimes the odd trance track.
Right now the future is looking bright as Hybrid have joined forces with already popular club night Sample to give birth to Sample vs Hybrid. Hybrid have also announced their new resident DJ – Stewie Anderson who has a great style of mixing! Louis has played at many gigs in his 6 month DJ career including Club together, Lourenzos, Sample, Ryan’s Bar, “I’m not at T in the Park party” and has even played on an island rave, not to mention his new night starting in Newcastle on the 24Th of February. Louis has also been asked to play at Beach Break next year, a huge festival down in wales with 30.000 students.
Being huge supporters of his work, we caught up with Louis to give you a little bit more…

Interview
First of all, Before we kick off what drink are you having?
PINNNTT
Define your style and tell us a bit about yourself.
My music style varies, one minute I am a trance addict, then the next im back on to house. I would say that i have a varied range of music but most of it is kept tech/progressive house with a very sexy kind of vibe (vocal house). I started DJing back in february and studied a course with the DJ academy UK, after that i set up Hybrid and since then everything has just went from strength to strength.
How did you get into Music? Take us right back to the young days of Louis.
I was never a music man believe it or not. When I was younger I was a heavy rock fan but I had a lot of influence from my mum- she was right into all of the 90′s tunes like The Prodigy and Robin S (that kind of stuff) – i remember hearing ATB- 9pm when I was about 13 and ever since then I had the bug for electronic music.
How do you like to prepare for a big night?
I always get really nervous on the night regardless of where I am playing, I usually have a couple of beers and that makes me a bit more confident. I figured that everyone makes mistakes, even superstars and you just make every gig you do the best for both yourself and your crowd.
Have you thought about producing your own music?
Producing music will hopefully happen sometime in the near future for me, just now I am more focused on just perfecting my sound and promoting my name and Hybrid.
What’s your ultimate direction? Are you seeking fame and fortune?
My ultimate ambition has always been becoming a superstar DJ, however, thinking about it, if I could just keep doing what i am doing just now then i would be happy too! I don’t need to make a fortune as long as i can keep doing the thing I love most to good and energetic crowds then I am a happy bunny. (I haven’t come across a better feeling yet.)
Do you like to work alone or with other people?
I think that I like a bit of both… I love working with everyone in the music scene to promote and run nights but when it comes to playing sets, I like to have the decks to myself – in a non dickish way – haha!
Who would be your dream artist to work with?
I have many many many artists I would love to work with or support. I think tiesto is the almighty and that goes without saying in my books; but someone like Roger Sanchez or Erick Morillo would be a dream come true for me.
What do you like the most about people hearing the music?
Well the thing I love about hearing music is that it can have so many effects on you, whenI hear a tuneI love I get those shivers down my back and want to go mental. I guess what I am trying to say is the energy that music has is mind blowing – I try and incorporate that into every set I play. People hearing my music also means I can share my love for music with them.
What has been your biggest challenge so far?
MONEY! being a student I never have enough, apart from that promotion – its so difficult to promote your own night, there’s always something stopping you, its so hard to get anything out of some nights when you put nothing but blood, sweat and tears into it!

What’s your Best/Worst gig?
I think that every gig I get offered is a blessing in itself – I always feel honored when people ask to play at their nights. If I had to pick one? It would have been our Hybrid night in July- it wasn’t packed but everyone inside was well up for it! I have not really had any bad gigs personally. But we had a night in august which we thought was going to be amazing but it was nothing like we thought it would be.
What’s your dream gig?
I have no idea, I seen something at Rockness last year called the Arcadia Afterburner which is a huge structure with a full light and laser show with towering smoke machines and flame throwers . Its all made from old war vehicles, the DJ booth is like 5 meters of the ground- that would be pretty cool to play in that contraption. Other than that, DJ’ing abroad would also be a great privilege for me!
What’s your all-time favourite track?
Now that’s a very difficult question! There’s so many good tunes out there. I guess one of my favourites would be an oldie such as Delirium or South-Side
And what is your guilty pleasure track, everyone loves a bit of cheese?
I’m not proud of this but it would have to be Nakatomi- Children of the Night!…..its sounds like a 150bpm pop song
Last one. Do you have any tips for other young DJ/Producers who want to succeed?
I am still only a rookie myself but my best bit of advice would be never let anything get in the ways of your dreams, if you want to do something that bad then you will eventually get there, stick at it and your hard work will be worth it one day. Remember its not a matter of “if” its a matter of “when”.
